Red Rocoto Pepper Seeds

Size

When they say, “an apple a day keeps the doctor away”, this pepper is exactly what they are talking about! The Red Rocoto Pepper lives up to its “apple chile” translation with a juicy, citrus flavor. The pepper is shaped like a small 2” bright red apple with a thick and sturdy pod flesh. Also referred to as a Red Manzano Pepper, the plant blooms vibrant blue flowers with hairy leaves, features unique black seeds, and turns from green to red when mature.

Like it’s Orange Rocoto and Yellow Rocoto counterparts, this Red Rocoto Pepper Plant is sturdy and long-lasting. Native to Peru and Bolivia, this pepper is grown in the cooler climate of the Andes Mountains and will thrive in cooler climates and partial shade in your own backyard. Keep these plants away from frost, and you can count on a steady harvest of delicious Red Rocoto Peppers year after year.

Interesting seeds, great germination

Quick Germination

About 30 days ago, using an empty tofu package filled with starting mix as the medium, I planted red and yellow rocoto pepper seeds from Pepper Joe's. Most of the seeds germinated in less than a week, and now all the seedlings have grown their first set of true leaves and are large enough for a first transplant. So far, so good! I also planted seeds from several varieties of annuum and chinenses species from Pepper Joe's at the same time, and those are all up too. I'm really impressed with the rapidity and rate of germination. Good seeds make all the difference!

Great job, after I got the seeds I even spent some time reading their online material. Knowledgeable and dedicated group I’d say.
