Looking for an ornamental pepper plant that will bring more than just looks? You won’t be disappointed with the Cheiro Roxa because it is a unique purple-colored beauty that is pretty to show in your garden. The Cheiro Roxa pepper is a relative of the Habanero that has just slightly less heat, with a unique fresh sweet flavor. It is great to use as an alternative to the Habanero if you are looking for just as much flavor with a bit of bitter taste, a unique color, with a little less heat. The peppers grow from dark purple to a lighter purple, almost pink color. The shape is a squished shape at about 1 inch in length. The plants are very productive and grow to about 3 ft tall.
WARNING: Plants adjust to small, gradual changes in their environment better than sudden shifts, which is what the hardening off process is all about. Just as you get burned when you bare your untanned skin to the sun, leaves of plants started indoors will develop pale, sunburned patches if they are suddenly exposed to too much sun. The story has a happier ending when you introduce seedlings to bright light and sheltered breezes gradually, over a period of one to three weeks.
