Description:

Wicked hot, beautiful pods

I got free chocolate bhutlah seeds from pepper joes when I bought seeds last year and had great germination with them, I have 3 very healthy plants outside that are just starting to get ripe pods, Plucked one today and tried a small bite and up front you get the common floral super hot pepper that tastes of 7 pot variety and earthy undertones. Then the heat kicks in, and it’s REALLY hot, not for someone who just likes a little heat. I’m going to have loads of chocolate bhutlah pods and I’m going to use these for hot sauce. I really think it’s one of the best ways to use up peppers this hot, could be good sliced up on a sandwich too but, only for the chili heads! I think I like these enough to grow them again next year

That is a beautiful looking pod! Thanks for sharing!

I ordered 3 types of seeds, they arrived in just a few days.
I'm writing this review before any sprouts have shown up, but I'm hopeful. Thank you pepper Joe

Poor germination

I've been trying to grow as many pepper varieties as I can recently. these peppers have definitely given me some more trouble than most. I planted all 10 seeds and only got 2 to sprout. one died shortly after and the other one is doing just fine. I'm a little disappointed I couldn't get more to sprout.

Hi Sarah, we would be happy to help! Please reach out to our service team with your germination process and we can try to provide some tips and tricks for better success.

Beautiful, wicked hot peppers

No problems germinating earlier this year and now I have 3 healthy chocolate bhutlah plants outside along with many other varieties that are flourishing. Pods on all plants are turning a really interesting chocolate color and the heat level on these is not to be messed with. It’s a painful burn, Different from reapers IMO. Reapers are not to be messed with
Either but there’s something different about the way these guys burn. Makes great hot sauce, or slice one up and put it on a sandwich if you dare. Earthy , 7 pot flavors with more heat than you can stand. Will be growing these again next year

Wicked Hot, I love it! Thanks for sharing!

Beautiful, wicked hot peppers

I purchased some seeds from pepper joes last year and they sent me some of these chocolate bhutlah seeds free with my order, I had great germination and I have 3 really strong plants of this variety, along with many others that are producing some beautiful pods. They ripen to a really interesting chocolate color , after trying a small taste of a ripened pod I taste flavors similar to 7 pot variety peppers and earthy notes. This is a painfully hot pepper. If you are new to super hot peppers I do not advise eating an entire pod. You’re gonna be in trouble. Assess your toleration for spice and treat this pepper with respect. That aside, This would make some great hot sauce, which is exactly what I’m using it for. I like this so much that I’m sure I will grow this again next year.

Thank you for sharing and keeping things HOT!

Free seeds, 100% germination

Got these seeds as free seeds with an order. These pepper plants grew so much faster than i thought they would. Like most hot peppers these have mildly deformed leaves as it grows. I have noticed this with most of the ghost and scorpion pepper plants. These plants are beautiful and just want to grow. Had 100% germination. I don't have room for all 5 plants so i sent a few to friends. They are all extremely happy with these plants as well. Fyi these plants ship very well if they get to their destination in only a day or 2. Im not sure about longer time in the mail though.

Great Germination

My son and I started growing superhots ten years ago with the 7pot douglah being the hottest.

Long break and I’m growing again. I bought these based on the monsters the douglahs were.

Just getting started. I got 12 seeds from my order and all twelve have germinated. It’s been ten days since I planted them.

Way quicker than any of the superhots I had grown in the past.

All the seeds I’ve bought this year are doing extremely well. this has been a great experience and I will be ordering more.

I’m looking forward to doing the chocolate bhutlah challenge!

Good Producer

These can get to be a good size plant and put out a lot of peppers. Interestingly, during the first half the season they produced peppers that looked more like a chocolate reaper or scorpion with out the pronounced tail. Later in the season when it started getting cooler, they all produce peppers like the ones pictured.

Great strain

This was my most productive strain in 2019, got 50+ pods from 3 plants. Strong trunks with a nice canopy, still have some ripening fruit in late October (growing zone 7). Did best in a 5-gallon grow bag. Peppers were a beautiful dark brown and almost of them shaped like their douglah parent, though 1 plant produced fruit that had that classic jolokia shape as shown in the pictures here. Nice earthy taste, a little sweet but not overly fruity, long ride on the heat train. Looking forward to some fermented sauce in another month or so. Highly recommended if you like them superhot.

Hot

Smokey heat but very hot. I used them in a bbq sauce and over did it. Definately should have started slow. Very good yield. Very attractive. This was my 1st experience with a chocolate....definately unique.
