Description:

Our Live Plant Process

Our Live Plant Growing & Shipping Process

At Pepper Joe's, our live pepper plants are grown with care from the very beginning to ensure customers receive strong, healthy plants ready to thrive.

All of our pepper plants are greenhouse grown hydroponically in rockwool, allowing for consistent nutrition, controlled growing conditions, and strong root development. Many varieties are started as early as December, giving plants ample time to mature before shipping season begins in April.

Each plant is grown to approximately 4 inches before being prepared for shipment. Prior to shipping, every plant is individually inspected by a member of our greenhouse team to ensure it meets our quality standards.

Plants are shipped in a protective mini greenhouse made from recycled material, specially sourced to help safeguard live plants during transit. This packaging helps maintain plant structure and reduce stress while traveling to your door.

Slow Starters, But MASSIVE Volume!

I ordered my plants in Spring 2024 (wrote a previous review dated 5/28/24) and did the traditional slow progressive hardening process. While they initially were affected by sunscald after planting, they took root and grew to be *enormous* bushy producers! I had one plant in a container and another in the ground and they both did phenomenally by the end of the season (grew in USDA zone 5b).

Only minor issue I ran into was that this variety seemed to take a little while longer than other peppers to ripen, but I was still able to use the unripened pods after harvest.

Ripened pods were the perfect heat level, fruity, and do well even after being frozen and unthawed. 10/10, will buy from pepperjoes again!

Soggy and sad

Three of four are dead.
All arrived excessively wet and unexpectedly pale.
All were potted in high quality potting soil immediately. Two died within a few days, one held on for two weeks. The last one is still green but hasn’t grown more than 1/2”.

Hi Frank,
Thanks for reviewing our Fatalii Pepper Plants! We're so sorry to hear that these plants arrived soggy and didn't make it. A member of our team will be reaching out to dig into this and offer further assistance. We appreciate your time!

Healthy plants, clever packaging, but…

I feel like the fact that they’re shipped in rockwool is kinda hidden at the bottom of the page, well below the buy button. None of my plants made the transition, but it was a combination of above average temps and an unusually busy couple weeks for me personally. Next year I’m starting my own seeds, but if something goes awry I wouldn’t hesitate to get plants from PJ’s again.

poor plants

They were undersized plants, much smaller than what was shown on their website. Both plants have died since planting them so won't even get to enjoy the peppers. not worth the money

Hi Jeffrey,
Thank you for reviewing our Fatalii Pepper Plants! We're so sorry to hear that you were disappointed in the plant size and that they didn't survive. A member of our team will be contacting you directly to look into this and offer further assistance. Thank you for bringing this to our attention!

Did not survive

I followed the instructions, but these little fatali starters did not survive. Super bummed, especially because they weren't cheap. I also ordered habaneros which are doing great, but the fatali all died quickly.

Hi Jeff,
Thank you for your review! We're sorry to hear that the Fatallii Pepper Plants didn't survive. A member of our team will be reaching out directly to dig into this and offer further assistance. We look forward to working with you!

Last time

I’ve been buying seeds, spices, food & live plants from this outfit for a couple of years. The spices and food are amazing…however. Seeds never germinate and the live plants die quickly under optimal conditions. Tired of wasting money. So 2025, they will not have my business.

Kevin,
Thank you for taking the time to write a review! We are so sorry to hear that the seeds did not germinate and that your plants did not survive. Our team will be reaching out to you directly to help look into this further and work with you on a resolution. Thank you for bringing this to our attention!

Died a couple days later

The order arrived fast and safely. The package was not damaged at all. But just a couple days after receiving the package the small plants were dead, and at $10.00 per plant it’sa little disheartening.

Jeffery,
Thank you for your review! We are so sorry to hear that the Fatalii Pepper Plants died after a few days. Our team will be reaching out to you directly to look into what may have caused this and offer assistance. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to work with you on a resolution!

too young

I don't know what material the pepper plants were in for germination. It wouldn't let the roots to come through and into the soil. The plants were too young for planting. 3 so far have died. Others don't look like they will survive. We will not buy from you again

Jeff,
Thank you for your review! We are so sorry to hear about your experience with our live plants. The plants come in rockwool and can be planted directly in soil as the roots will grow through this material. Our team will be reaching out to you directly to further investigate this issue and provide resolution. Thank you for bringing this to our attention!

Tough Adjustment Period

I bought my Fatalii seedlings and went through the traditional progressive outdoor hardening process over the course of 4-5 weeks. After planting outside in my garden despite hardening, they almost immediately were affected by sunscald and are the most stunted of the plants in my garden. I truly don't know if they'll fully recover and be able to bear fruit.

Paul,
Thank you for your review on the Fatalii Pepper Plants! We are so sorry to hear that these plants were affected by sunscald when you planted them. If they do not bounce back and recover, our team would be happy to provide resolution! You can contact us at anytime by emailing customerservice@pepperjoe.com.

Everything has worked out great. I spent the first week acclimating them and transplanted them to a large pot and place them in a sunny spot. They shot up tall and bushy. And when I saw buds I topped them as the video showed. I now have peppers on both plants! Can’t wait to harvest and make my Hot Sauce!

Results from the peppers I ordered

I ordered two Primotalii and two Fatalii pepper plants and they are doing amazing! It may have took two weeks to get them but they were packaged well and looked healthy from the start. They look good and healthy right now too and getting big. They’re starting to form buds and it looks like I might be getting a good yield from them too! I’ll definitely have to order from PJ again.

Fatali Pepper

I ordered the Fatali’s and it took some time to get them. I had to ask for a status on them twice before they got sent to me. But they were packaged very well. Healthy. And are growing and looking good.
Can’t wait to start harvesting peppers. I love them. I make pepper vinegar sauce with them. Fabulous.

Great packaging and shipping. Plants were in excellent condition. Put them in pots right away and started hardening them off. They’re doing great now. Looking forward to harvest time.

Great peppers!

These peppers are fantastic! Great heat and make amazing sauces. The plants arrived perfect, and were hearty enough they bounced back strong from my inexperience. I had one that was down to almost no leaves - I was positive it was a loss. It ended up making more peppers than I could use. I get them every year here now!

I was looking forward to this pepper. None survived. Plants were not healthy. And I have been growing peppers for years so I know what I'm doing.

Thank you for providing us with feedback and we are sorry to hear about your experience. Please email your order number to customerservice@pepperjoe.com we'd be happy to look into this.

Not growing.

They arrived seemingly healthy butIt's been 55 days since getting these plants and they have not died, but they have not grown since planting them. I hardened them off like you are supposed to but They are stunted and have stayed stunted. I have tried everything to get them to grow but they won't.

Hello, hot peppers can be tricky to grow. Here is the process we follow and see 95% success rate across the board. They are very particular to soil temp requiring 80-85*. I hope this helps! Please give our customer service team a call at 888-660-2276 for additional questions.

Small slow growing plants

Smallest plants I have ever seen. One was under two inches the other right at it. They have been cared for and planted now for several weeks. Still seem slow to get going and in no way worth the money or any head start to the garden. Poor customer service on top of that, look elsewhere.

I am sorry to hear you are unsatisfied with your order. We would be happy to help! Please reach out if you would like additional assistance!

May 8th and still no plants

I pre-ordered these on January 28. May 8th and still no plants. Will not be shopping here again. Contacted customer service two weeks ago and they said they would be shipping in a couple of weeks. Couple of weeks go by and nothing has shipped.

Hello, we would be happy to look into this if you can call in and provide your order #. Thank you!

Beautiful, healthy plants!

I'm delighted - yes delighted - with how great these plants look and how they were shipped. Minimal plastic, biodegradable pots, and some even had two plants per pot, totally worthwhile. They even came with a little packet of "Kelp Blast" fertilizer.

Fantastic plants!

I've ordered 10 different pepper plants from Pepper Joe's this year. They always arrive in excellent shape and continue to thrive after transplant.
