Our Live Plant Growing & Shipping Process
At Pepper Joe's, our live pepper plants are grown with care from the very beginning to ensure customers receive strong, healthy plants ready to thrive.
All of our pepper plants are greenhouse grown hydroponically in rockwool, allowing for consistent nutrition, controlled growing conditions, and strong root development. Many varieties are started as early as December, giving plants ample time to mature before shipping season begins in April.
Each plant is grown to approximately 4 inches before being prepared for shipment. Prior to shipping, every plant is individually inspected by a member of our greenhouse team to ensure it meets our quality standards.
Plants are shipped in a protective mini greenhouse made from recycled material, specially sourced to help safeguard live plants during transit. This packaging helps maintain plant structure and reduce stress while traveling to your door.

When will my pre-order live plant ship?
- Pre-order live plants begin shipping in April. Orders are fulfilled based on the shipping week you selected at checkout.
- Not sure which week you chose? Log in to your account (or create one using the same email) to view your order details.
All non-Pre-order live plant orders ship the next business day.
Live plants ship only to the contiguous U.S.

Refund & Replacement Policy
We offer a replacement or refund for live plants reported as damaged or unsatisfactory within a reasonable timeframe, typically 48–72 hours after delivery. Clear photos of the plant(s) and packaging may be required to process a claim.
Additional limits:
- We can’t offer refunds or replacements for issues reported more than 7 days after transplanting, as plant health can be affected by factors outside our control.
- No refunds or replacements will be issued for dead plants more than 30 days after delivery, under any circumstances.
- We offer one replacement per order for all products, including seeds and live plants.
- If a replacement is needed but the item is out of stock, we’ll provide a gift card or refund equal to the item value.
This plant arrived healthy. However based on its size, I didn’t think it was going to make it or provide any peppers this season. This plant fooled me. It is currently giving us peppers.

Plant performance can vary from year to year due to differences in weather, soil conditions, transplant timing, and environmental stress, even with the same varieties. That said, we understand how disappointing it is to lose plants.

I ordered 8 of these live plants. The USPS had issues with delivery. They actually arrived a couple days late (no fault of Pepper Joe's ). I thought they would show up dead. However, due to the quality of the plants, the packaging etc.. they where still very healthy. They have been thriving better than I thought. Super happy. Thank you.

Maybe no fault of Pepper Joe’s, but our plants are less than a foot tall. We have used a fish plant food too. The last plants we had took until November to harvest. I don’t have a green thumb is obviously not helping.lol

One of the pepper plants Arrived in pretty rough shape tried to baby it back to health but it ended up dying. The other one is doing good so not a total loss.
Best habaneros. Everyone agrees. All others don’t even come close. Fabulous peppers.

I was ordered the habanero seedling along with other seedlings and followed the instructions for hardening and transplanting. I achieved success for all seedlings except the habanero which just withered away. All other plants are thriving.

I bought 4 plants thinking I would get at least 3 to make it but I didn't. Only 1 of the 4 survived and I "hardened" them indoors for 10 days initially like the paperwork indicated and really babied them but couldn't get them to live. I have other chile plants I bought at my local Home Depot for 5 to 10 dollars a plant and were easily 2-3x the size when I bought them compared to the Pepper Joe's plants but really wanted habanero plants which my local store didn't have. 45 days in and I still do not have anything near a habanero growing in my still very small plant. I suspect it could take another couple months.
We purchased six hot pepper plants (cherry pepper, jalapeño, and habanero). They arrived carefully packaged, and the planting tips were very helpful. All are thriving on our balcony, and we’ll have hot peppers and homemade hot sauce soon! Will definitely order from Pepper Joe’s again.
Habanero pepper is my favorite to give my meal the heat I need, and the flavor is added bonus. So I always have several plants going, which I always get from Pepper Joes. Along with scotch bonnets, another favorite.

Hello, hot peppers can be tricky to grow. Here is the process we follow and see 95% success rate across the board. They are very particular to soil temp requiring 80-85*. I hope this helps! Please give our customer service team a call at 888-660-2276 for additional questions.
