Our Live Plant Process

Our Live Plant Growing & Shipping Process

At Pepper Joe's, our live pepper plants are grown with care from the very beginning to ensure customers receive strong, healthy plants ready to thrive.

All of our pepper plants are greenhouse grown hydroponically in rockwool, allowing for consistent nutrition, controlled growing conditions, and strong root development. Many varieties are started as early as December, giving plants ample time to mature before shipping season begins in April.

Each plant is grown to approximately 4 inches before being prepared for shipment. Prior to shipping, every plant is individually inspected by a member of our greenhouse team to ensure it meets our quality standards.

Plants are shipped in a protective mini greenhouse made from recycled material, specially sourced to help safeguard live plants during transit. This packaging helps maintain plant structure and reduce stress while traveling to your door.

When will my pre-order live plant ship?

Pre-order live plants begin shipping in April. Orders are fulfilled based on the shipping week you selected at checkout.
Not sure which week you chose? Log in to your account (or create one using the same email) to view your order details.

All non-Pre-order live plant orders ship the next business day.

Live plants ship only to the contiguous U.S.

Live Plant Refund & Replacement Information

Refund & Replacement Policy

We offer a replacement or refund for live plants reported as damaged or unsatisfactory within a reasonable timeframe, typically 48–72 hours after delivery. Clear photos of the plant(s) and packaging may be required to process a claim.

Additional limits:

We can’t offer refunds or replacements for issues reported more than 7 days after transplanting, as plant health can be affected by factors outside our control.
No refunds or replacements will be issued for dead plants more than 30 days after delivery, under any circumstances.
We offer one replacement per order for all products, including seeds and live plants.
If a replacement is needed but the item is out of stock, we’ll provide a gift card or refund equal to the item value.

I Once loved Pepper Joes…

… but none of the seeds propagated and when the live plants arrived 2 days late they just withered away and died. So, I ordered live plants - 4 cayenne and 2 Carolina reaper - from Amazon. They are doing incredible. As such, I think I’ve bought my last from Pepper Joes!!

Can't handle FL heat.

The plant arrived in good health, but even in partial shade, it couldn't handle the Florida heat, and died in a couple weeks, even with ample watering. Maybe if I'd planted it in the spring so it could get really established I'd have had a better outcome.

Beautiful Flowers are blooming

So far so good. I don’t have any peppers yet but I do have numerous beautiful purple flowers on the plant right now. Can’t wait for the peppers to follow!

Currently have loads of purple flowers!

Plant arrived healthy and has been flourishing ever since. I am excited for the peppers to grow!

Arrived sickly

Arrived dry as a bone and seed capsult transferred to cow pot with starter soil and nursed but never made it to the garden. Caolina Reaper, Purple Cayenne,T-Rex Yellow and Ghost never made it either. Not a Pepper Joe rookie so they had meticulous attention right out of shipping container.

Plant arrived i. excellent condition! They have goid selection, food prices ans smart shipping methods. Definitely glad I found them!

Both plants were dead when I got them. All of my other plants are doing well and thriving. I've gotten so many good plants from here that I never complained about these two but since they sent a review I figured I would write something.

Almost dead plants

Find another company, I contacted support with pictures to show what arrived and their solution was to plant them. As if nothing. No one should buy anything from here. Complete scam

Hearty plant with nice looking peppers

I bought a few other varieties and this is the fastest growing pepper plant of the bunch. Tall thin plant with a lot of light purple flowers and dark purple peppers.

Plants died quickly

Plants arrived alive and well packed! One plant is growing quicker than the other. Both are alive just seems to be much slower on one. Can wait for the fruits to drop!! Just remember to be very careful on the watering. Too much is just as bad as sun burn/ death!

So far so good, the plants are full of fruit. Now I just have to wait until they ripen

They both died

I am not sure what happened to the purple cayenne plants. One lost all of its leaves and the other did not survive either. I am puzzled. There is always next year.

Beautiful pepper plants

So far so good, too early to see fruits, but I am hopeful. The plants came to to me looking great and I topped them off to get fuller plants. Can't wait to see fruit. Pepper Joe's is the place to buy quality plants!

Something about these plants…

My girlfriend wanted purple cayenne so I bought 4 plants to give joes another shot… seems like some do great and others just die as soon as you transplant them…. I have close to 40 pepper plants this season. Some from seed and some bought from Lowe’s, homedepot, and a local nursery… these are the only ones I’ve had trouble with, makes me skeptical on buying anymore live plants. Maybe seeds is the only way to go from here…

Growing like a weed

Bought the 2 plants and both arrived in good condition. One plant has grown vigorously while the other has not. the 2nd plant has only grown about 2 inches from when it was transplanted. will give another review when peppers are ready to harvest.

I ordered two of these and arrived in good shape. Only one plant was a Purple Cayenne, the other was something else, not sure what kind of pepper it is. Somewhat disappointed in not getting my order correct.

I had made a purchase of the same Purple Cayenne Pepper Plants but when I received them the mail had not been so nice! They were broke up and there was nothing I could do to save them...

They are already growing while I am slowly hardening them off and are doing very well!
