Our Live Plant Process

Our Live Plant Growing & Shipping Process

At Pepper Joe's, our live pepper plants are grown with care from the very beginning to ensure customers receive strong, healthy plants ready to thrive.

All of our pepper plants are greenhouse grown hydroponically in rockwool, allowing for consistent nutrition, controlled growing conditions, and strong root development. Many varieties are started as early as December, giving plants ample time to mature before shipping season begins in April.

Each plant is grown to approximately 4 inches before being prepared for shipment. Prior to shipping, every plant is individually inspected by a member of our greenhouse team to ensure it meets our quality standards.

Plants are shipped in a protective mini greenhouse made from recycled material, specially sourced to help safeguard live plants during transit. This packaging helps maintain plant structure and reduce stress while traveling to your door.

When will my pre-order live plant ship?

  • Pre-order live plants begin shipping in April. Orders are fulfilled based on the shipping week you selected at checkout.
  • Not sure which week you chose? Log in to your account (or create one using the same email) to view your order details.

All non-Pre-order live plant orders ship the next business day.

Live plants ship only to the contiguous U.S.

Live Plant Refund & Replacement Information

Refund & Replacement Policy

We offer a replacement or refund for live plants reported as damaged or unsatisfactory within a reasonable timeframe, typically 48–72 hours after delivery. Clear photos of the plant(s) and packaging may be required to process a claim.

Additional limits:

  • We can’t offer refunds or replacements for issues reported more than 7 days after transplanting, as plant health can be affected by factors outside our control.
  • No refunds or replacements will be issued for dead plants more than 30 days after delivery, under any circumstances.
  • We offer one replacement per order for all products, including seeds and live plants.
  • If a replacement is needed but the item is out of stock, we’ll provide a gift card or refund equal to the item value.

Plants not strong

About half the plants i ordered have died. I have kept watered to the right level, added the powder dissolved in water as per directions and leaves keep dropping off and plants dying.

Transplant shock is a common issue with pepper plants after shipping, as they must adjust to changes in temperature, light, humidity, and growing conditions. This stress can sometimes cause leaf drop, wilting, or even plant loss despite proper care.

I got the correct seedling, however it’s very leggy and is still developmentally behind the other Thai Dragon I got a few weeks later. It’s not nearly as bushy and has just started producing buds.

A promise of peppers

I was amazed at the size of the seedlings. Big and off to a good start. Weather here was hot for a few days, so I moved them out side but now it's kind of chilly. One plant is flowering, the other is struggling, so it's too soon to tell, but I'm hopeful.

Oh for a growing well there’s still too small to have peppers on them. The lead the stem was cut which kind of sent the plant into shock, and now it’s really growing from a stem. Kind of a fickle plant I didn’t release it to the sun yet because it really can’t take the heat here in Florida

Great condition but slow growth

I received the pepper plants in great condition and I followed all the steps to harden them off and pot them. I just have a problem with them growing. The leaves are yellow and some have fallen off. I think their growth might be stunted but I still have hope for them. Crossing my fingers they grow!

45 days later

My seeds are doing great! But my Thai and jalapeño plants are still very small. I have provided them with great organic soil and 5gal buckets and still are very small. Oh well I might have better luck in the spring time.

Late season seedlings are risky

None of my late season cuts turned out very well, even with hardening. Out of my six only three are still alive and all are stunted with no fruit. These plants came topped and just didn’t do well.

Hello, hot peppers can be tricky to grow. Here is the process we follow and see 95% success rate across the board. They are very particular to soil temp requiring 80-85*. I hope this helps! Please give our customer service team a call at 888-660-2276 for additional questions.
