Our Live Plant Process

Our Live Plant Growing & Shipping Process

At Pepper Joe's, our live pepper plants are grown with care from the very beginning to ensure customers receive strong, healthy plants ready to thrive.

All of our pepper plants are greenhouse grown hydroponically in rockwool, allowing for consistent nutrition, controlled growing conditions, and strong root development. Many varieties are started as early as December, giving plants ample time to mature before shipping season begins in April.

Each plant is grown to approximately 4 inches before being prepared for shipment. Prior to shipping, every plant is individually inspected by a member of our greenhouse team to ensure it meets our quality standards.

Plants are shipped in a protective mini greenhouse made from recycled material, specially sourced to help safeguard live plants during transit. This packaging helps maintain plant structure and reduce stress while traveling to your door.

When will my pre-order live plant ship?

Pre-order live plants begin shipping in April. Orders are fulfilled based on the shipping week you selected at checkout.
Not sure which week you chose? Log in to your account (or create one using the same email) to view your order details.

All non-Pre-order live plant orders ship the next business day.

Live plants ship only to the contiguous U.S.

Live Plant Refund & Replacement Information

Refund & Replacement Policy

We offer a replacement or refund for live plants reported as damaged or unsatisfactory within a reasonable timeframe, typically 48–72 hours after delivery. Clear photos of the plant(s) and packaging may be required to process a claim.

Additional limits:

We can’t offer refunds or replacements for issues reported more than 7 days after transplanting, as plant health can be affected by factors outside our control.
No refunds or replacements will be issued for dead plants more than 30 days after delivery, under any circumstances.
We offer one replacement per order for all products, including seeds and live plants.
If a replacement is needed but the item is out of stock, we’ll provide a gift card or refund equal to the item value.

Scotch pepper plants

The plants look good for over two weeks, after that one started to dry up and then the other started to dry up. So I was very disappointed with that.

Worth it!!

My significant other bought me a couple of these. They arrived in perfect condition in the rock wool, and transplanting them to soil pots was easy. Kept them inside for a little over a week, making sure the soil was moist. Hardening them was easy. Took close to 3 months to get my first peppers, and another month or so for them to ripen.
They have the noted sweet flavor and deliver on heat.

Mine died after 2 weeks

I tried the hardening process, moving the plants inside and outside gradually, but I must've done something wrong. Not for beginners I guess

I ordered my peppers late but when I received them they were very healthy. I planted them in buckets and I really wasn’t expecting much but to my surprise the plants have thrived and are growing nicely. I would definitely buy again

Didn’t survive

Followed the website rules. Last plant ordered was bigger and stronger. It has grown more. This one didn’t make it in my home and couldn’t be put outside yet.

Arrived in rough shape and all died

We are avid gardeners and looked forward to growing Scotch Bonnet plants. We could tell that the plants were likely in good condition when they were shipped but it seems the shipping process was too much for them. The weather was also a bit unstable at that time and every plant failed to thrive despite care from us. We are saddened and surprised at the poor outcome.

Growing pod issues

The growing pods keep the roots from expanding into the soil by the time I figured out what was happening it was to late. The plants were too far gone. I lost both plants, good thing I over wintered one from last year so I'm not completely out of scotch bonnets for the season.

When transplanting, it can take awhile for the plants to adjust to their new environment and begin growing. Making sure they are staying at temperatures above 60 degrees at all times and are receiving plenty of sunlight will help. Plants did not take

Within 1 week of receiving the plants they were transplanted into pots and placed outside in the daylight...taken in at night until it was warm enough overnight. The 4 plants I purchased never got any taller than they were when they arrived, and soon thereafter withered, and as of now have not come back (I've tried, but there seems to be no hope). Maybe just luck of the draw, and yes, I would buy again, but just disappointed.

Plants were very small and not packed well

Our pepper plants are advertised as being 2”-6” when they are shipped and they come in our custom plant packaging that is designed to secure live plants. So far so good!

The peppers arrived in a nice container well protected and are growing well… they did take a detour from the Midwest to California before arriving in Florida delayed. The plants had an anemic look from extended lack of sunlight. With some special attention, they are back to health and growing at their usual slow super hot pepper rate.
