Our Live Plant Process

Our Live Plant Growing & Shipping Process

At Pepper Joe's, our live pepper plants are grown with care from the very beginning to ensure customers receive strong, healthy plants ready to thrive.

All of our pepper plants are greenhouse grown hydroponically in rockwool, allowing for consistent nutrition, controlled growing conditions, and strong root development. Many varieties are started as early as December, giving plants ample time to mature before shipping season begins in April.

Each plant is grown to approximately 4 inches before being prepared for shipment. Prior to shipping, every plant is individually inspected by a member of our greenhouse team to ensure it meets our quality standards.

Plants are shipped in a protective mini greenhouse made from recycled material, specially sourced to help safeguard live plants during transit. This packaging helps maintain plant structure and reduce stress while traveling to your door.

When will my pre-order live plant ship?

Pre-order live plants begin shipping in April. Orders are fulfilled based on the shipping week you selected at checkout.
Not sure which week you chose? Log in to your account (or create one using the same email) to view your order details.

All non-Pre-order live plant orders ship the next business day.

Live plants ship only to the contiguous U.S.

Live Plant Refund & Replacement Information

Refund & Replacement Policy

We offer a replacement or refund for live plants reported as damaged or unsatisfactory within a reasonable timeframe, typically 48–72 hours after delivery. Clear photos of the plant(s) and packaging may be required to process a claim.

Additional limits:

We can’t offer refunds or replacements for issues reported more than 7 days after transplanting, as plant health can be affected by factors outside our control.
No refunds or replacements will be issued for dead plants more than 30 days after delivery, under any circumstances.
We offer one replacement per order for all products, including seeds and live plants.
If a replacement is needed but the item is out of stock, we’ll provide a gift card or refund equal to the item value.

Poor Plants

Four of the nine plants I ordered did not survive. But if they survive 48 hours, Pepper Joes will not provide a replacement. I will not be ordering in the future.

We're sorry to hear that you remain dissatisfied with your experience.

As mentioned in our previous correspondence, we ask customers to contact us shortly after receiving their plants and provide photos if the plants appear stressed, droopy, or wilted after shipping. This allows us to evaluate the condition of the plants, provide guidance, and determine whether replacement plants may be needed.

Although we are no longer able to provide replacement plants due to seasonal inventory limitations, we have offered you either replacement seeds or a gift card for a future purchase as a resolution. We are still happy to honor either option and are simply waiting to hear which you would prefer.

We appreciate your business and hope to have the opportunity to make this right.

It came with little bugs on it along with all the other Pepper plants, Only one out of the 7 survived. I love your Chocolate Bars and Hot Sauces. But I am very disappointed in the Live Pepper plants this season. They were seedings.

I have ordered seeds from you before and was pleased with the quality. I ordered 6 live plants and was incredibly disappointed. All died. I have grown tons of hot peppers. So not inexperienced. I followed the enclosed instructions as well. Will no longer be buying your live plants.

Not doing well

I have one plant growing out of four the other three have not grown since I got them. I never had problems growing peppers before.

DIED

Both of the plants that I got from this died within 1 week of getting them. Every other plant that I have is thriving uncontrollably and the peppers I got from Pepper Joe’s is dying.

7 Pot Douglah Pepper Plants

Sad plants

Of the six plants that I received in my order not a single one lived to be more than 5 days old. Most of them died within 72 hours of being planted in dirt one of them when delivered only had one single leaf left on it. It actually lived the longest because I kept it in a cup of water trying to get it to grow a little bit then one day it just gave up and died.
Not a single plant was over 2 inches tall when delivered. It is almost as if all of the seedlings were started in a hydroponics system and then just shipped out without adequate information.

They were tiny

They were very small and both died when transitioning to the outside. It's very unfortunate because I was very excited to try them.

Of the 10 varieties I ordered, this little pepper is the only one, with two plants, that really has been a struggle. Lost one, which was replaced, but still they are just not nearly as healthy or growing nearly as the others. s

I wish I had a picture to show you guys, but my love for superhots requires me to have a full time paying job, my 7 pot Douglahs are coming on strong and beautiful, they're are sprouting little buds now and the anticipation is killing me, thank you so much Pepper Joe's for the well packaged order, you guys are the best!!!!!! I give you guys 10 stars!!!!

I love the different types of peppers they provide...insane

I purchased the seedlings earlier this year and followed the instructions. They were great! The plants were healthier than the plants I bought from my local nursery and we have lots of peppers. Also bought some bequino peppers are those are also doing well. I was very sceptical when I purchased the seedlings but I am very happy with my purchase. Wish I could upload pictures but I don’t see that as an option .

Once again, they didn't grow

This is my second year buying expensive seedlings, and they didn't take. I won't buy them any more.
