Our Live Plant Process
Our Live Plant Process
Our Live Plant Growing & Shipping Process
At Pepper Joe's, our live pepper plants are grown with care from the very beginning to ensure customers receive strong, healthy plants ready to thrive.
All of our pepper plants are greenhouse grown hydroponically in rockwool, allowing for consistent nutrition, controlled growing conditions, and strong root development. Many varieties are started as early as December, giving plants ample time to mature before shipping season begins in April.
Each plant is grown to approximately 4 inches before being prepared for shipment. Prior to shipping, every plant is individually inspected by a member of our greenhouse team to ensure it meets our quality standards.
Plants are shipped in a protective mini greenhouse made from recycled material, specially sourced to help safeguard live plants during transit. This packaging helps maintain plant structure and reduce stress while traveling to your door.

Very Very slow growth
Hi Scott,
We're sorry to hear your fish pepper plants aren't growing as expected. Please contact us at customerservice@pepperjoe.com so we can help troubleshoot and improve your experience. Thank you for your feedback!
The 2 I received are on the struggle bus compared to my many other Pepper Joes plants. Newbie here so bound to make mistakes but my Pink Tiger x and AP and Trinidad scorpions are gang busters. Not sure what’s going on. There’s time
Hi there!
Sorry to hear your Fish Pepper Plants aren't thriving as expected. Sometimes peppers need a bit of time to settle in or some just do not survive the transit and transplanting and never do recover. If you'd like, we’re happy to offer tips or help troubleshoot to get your plants back on track. If you would like please email us at customerservice@pepperjoe.com with photos of your Fish Pepper Plants. Thanks for sharing your experience!
They arrived in decent shape but died shortly afyer
We're sorry to hear that your plants did not survive after arrival.
While we're glad they arrived in decent condition, there are several factors that can impact young pepper plants after delivery, including transit stress, transplant shock, environmental conditions, air and soil temperatures, watering practices, and the hardening-off process. Even healthy plants can struggle when adjusting to a new environment, and properly acclimating them outdoors can sometimes be a time-consuming process.
We understand how disappointing it is to lose plants after putting time and effort into them, and we appreciate you giving our plants a try. Thank you for your feedback.

Pepper plents were safe on arival and just as described
Purchased four plants, they are growing well and the variegation is beautiful. They have tolerated our unseasonably hot weather here in Ohio very well. My husband is actually hoping to over winter these plants, but will definitely purchase again.
Haven't harvested any yet but the plant is doing fantastic!
Weak roots when arrived. More then likely well not be getting any peppers from plant. More then likely to die. And my Pink Tiger X got eaten by a stray cat.
David,
Thanks for the review and so sorry one of the plants had weak roots when it arrived and the other was eaten by a cat. Our team will be reaching out to directly so we can come up with a solution!
Both my fish peppers and peach reapers showed up healthy, even though I live in a colder zone I was worried they’d die in shipping but I put them into solo cups and they’ve been doing great. Going to transplant them into their permanent home this week. Definitely will be buying again next season
Great packaging, the box shown wear and tear (even with a big red fragile sticker on the side) but the plants remained in good condition. I do wish they were just a little bigger or farther into their growth.
Lovely
Out of the 8 fish Pepper plant seedlings that I purchased, none have produced a single flower. One plant died in transit. Most of the remaining 7 still look like seedlings but slightly taller.
Thank you for taking the time to write a review. Our customer service team would be happy to look into this and offer suggestions. Please send a picture of your plants along with your order number to us at customerservice@pepperjoe.com.
Seedlings came in very good condition - harden them as instructed - and transplanted them successfully. Growing very nicely, can’t wait to taste the pepper.
since we've had a chilly early summer, the poor plant is hanging on. Something snipped off one of them and we are waiting to see if it will resprout from the roots.
I bought these later in the season. When they arrived I quickly did as the instructions asked and started the process of hardening off the peppers to be outdoors and transplanted.
To my surprise, after a few months they quickly caught up in size to the jalapeño plants a friend gave me at the start of the season!
The fish peppers look great with that variegated foliage that’s becoming rather bushy.
I can’t wait to try the peppers when they’re ready!
We ordered a two-pack, and one of them it appears the main stem was snipped and and the new "main" plant was an offshoot. That one has barely seen any new growth in the last month, but the other one took off and seems to be doing fairly well. We'll see how they do in terms of production, but I think I'll take my chances and start from seed next year.
plants:your fish pepper plants are wrapped up too tight with the type of material that you use and the delicate roots can't get through that material. I only have one left and i had to pull the material away from the roots. It is still not doing well. The seeds have not come up yet.
Thank you for providing us with feedback and we are sorry to hear about your experience with this plant. If you could send us a picture of what you received as well as your order number to customerservice@pepperjoe.com we'd be happy to look into this.
Plants arrived in good condition and transplanted well. Followed the hardening off specifics and plants didn’t have any trauma. I’m up in Alaska so the pepper summer season is a very hard challenge. Currently 45 days in peppers just started to produce buds. They are about 18 inches tall. (Wished they would have been 2 or 3 feet) but with the extreme long daylight and cooler 2am to 5am temps that’s understandable. My hope is that peppers will be ripe and delicious by mid September
Thank you for the fish peppers. I am excited to grow them and eat them with fresh fish here in Florida.
I followed all videos and instructions and the plants died within 10 days. I'm not sure what the cause was, but it was very disappointing.
Hello, we are happy to help if you want to reach out to our customer service team! Thanks!
I just received my order of 2 - Chocolate Reaper, 2 - Fish Pepper, and 2 - Apocalypse Scorpion live plants. I just unboxed the items.
ALL of the plants were very healthy. I was shocked this could have come out of a box in a hot mail truck. Not droopy at all, a few leaves had fallen off in the box, but other than that, they look nice. Of all the plants though, they Apocalypse scorpion were about twice the size of the others, and very bushy already at this young size. Also came with a packet of soil blast, thanks Pepper Joes!
Ive gotten them in pots and Im excited to begin the journey.
