Our Live Plant Process

Our Live Plant Growing & Shipping Process

At Pepper Joe's, our live pepper plants are grown with care from the very beginning to ensure customers receive strong, healthy plants ready to thrive.

All of our pepper plants are greenhouse grown hydroponically in rockwool, allowing for consistent nutrition, controlled growing conditions, and strong root development. Many varieties are started as early as December, giving plants ample time to mature before shipping season begins in April.

Each plant is grown to approximately 4 inches before being prepared for shipment. Prior to shipping, every plant is individually inspected by a member of our greenhouse team to ensure it meets our quality standards.

Plants are shipped in a protective mini greenhouse made from recycled material, specially sourced to help safeguard live plants during transit. This packaging helps maintain plant structure and reduce stress while traveling to your door.

When will my pre-order live plant ship?

Pre-order live plants begin shipping in April. Orders are fulfilled based on the shipping week you selected at checkout.
Not sure which week you chose? Log in to your account (or create one using the same email) to view your order details.

All non-Pre-order live plant orders ship the next business day.

Live plants ship only to the contiguous U.S.

Live Plant Refund & Replacement Information

Refund & Replacement Policy

We offer a replacement or refund for live plants reported as damaged or unsatisfactory within a reasonable timeframe, typically 48–72 hours after delivery. Clear photos of the plant(s) and packaging may be required to process a claim.

Additional limits:

We can’t offer refunds or replacements for issues reported more than 7 days after transplanting, as plant health can be affected by factors outside our control.
No refunds or replacements will be issued for dead plants more than 30 days after delivery, under any circumstances.
We offer one replacement per order for all products, including seeds and live plants.
If a replacement is needed but the item is out of stock, we’ll provide a gift card or refund equal to the item value.

Die Everytime

I’ve boughten these 3 separate times over the last 2 seasons, tried all kinds of things to get them to live and this season all 6 I bought lasted maybe a week in my garden bed.

Plant arrived alive. Planted same as my UFO’s. One has already died. The other seems to be stunted on growth. Leaves are drooping. I’m very careful on watering with seedlings and live young plants. Inside for a week. Then outside overnight. Back inside early morning. Did this for another week. Don’t know what I did wrong. Was excited to see some huge jalapeños. Maybe I’ll just order another set and pray they do better.

Thank you for leaving a review! We're so sorry to hear that the Jedi Jalapeno plants didn't do well for you. For hardening off, generally we recommend putting plants outside for just an hour to start. Then increasing to two hours on the second day, three hours on the third, and so on. We'd recommend trying that next time, as not only the sun, but fluctuating temperatures and even wind can shock plants if exposed for too long too soon. Plants arrived in perfect condition and continue to grow after transplanting.

They died

Plants were small for so late in the growing season and not cheap. Only one survived the transplant and it may not make it to maturity before the growing season in Nevada ends. I will most likely stick to local greenhouses in the future.

Arrived looking healthy

Seem to to doing well so far

Small. First set died. 2nd set. Barely holding on.

Jedi Peppers

Since recieving them 45 days ago, they have been planted in my garden bed and have been routinely watered and had ample
Sunlight and warm days. They have shown minimal growth. All of my other pepper plants in the same garden bed are triple to quadruple the height of the Jedi peppers plants and have flowered and have peppers growing on them. It is disappointing.

I bought plants... they were small "to be expected" young plants. None survived I called and was told I would be sent new plants. None have come... the season on peppers is long and I'm out of time.

Great

Love them they always do really great

They suddenly shriveled up and died.

I had a pair of them inside, with 2 other pairs of different peppers from Pepper Joes. I was waiting for the weather to get warmer to harden them off and plant them. They suddenly wilted and died. The other peppers were fine, and I’ve planted them outside. They were all treated the same. The Jedi Jalapeños both did it at the same time.

Happy Little pepper plants

My baby plants arrived in good condition. I kept them in larger pots on the patio for a few weeks before transplanting to raised beds.

They’re growing. Can’t wait to see the flowers.

Actually never again

I tried Pepper joes for the first time on live plants. Simply do not add up to what I can get from Piedmont Gardens or Burpee. Plants are better quality and more established at other options. Sorry

Jalapeño plant

I'm disappointed it hasn't grown at all.

Thank you for your review on the Jedi Jalapeno Pepper Plants! We are sorry to hear that these plants have not grown for you. This could be due to a variety of reasons as young pepper plants are very particular to their environment. One tip that may help is make sure to be really sparse with watering them at first, to the point where you’re only watering when they are first starting to droop. Water can hold in the rockwool where the young roots are and overwatering can stunt growth and the roots are not getting enough airflow. I hope this helps! Disappointed

After they arrived a planted them into small pots and they never grew. Kept them inside at night put them out in day time eventually they died off. I think you shipped them to early !
