Starting Your Seeds

We recommend the Wet Paper Towel Method for germinating your seeds. Gather the following supplies: your seeds, some paper towels, a waterproof marker, re- sealable plastic bags and water (let tap water sit 24 hours to evaporate chlorine).  You can walk through each of these steps with the wet paper towel germination video on our website at: https://pepperjoe.com/pages/how-to-grow-hot-peppers-101.  It’s the 1st in a series of 3 helpful and detailed videos.  TO BEGIN:

  • Mark each re-sealable plastic bag with the type of seeds going into the bag (don’t mix up your seeds!)
  • Spray the paper towel to dampen
  • Sprinkle the seeds on half the paper towel and fold over
  • Seal the bag leaving about 1” to let in the oxygen
  • Place the baggie flat in a warm (80-85 degree) area with moderate light
  • Keep paper towel damp over time

Germination can take anywhere from a few days to 6 weeks (for the super hots).  Once the seeds develop a small tail or sprout they are ready to transplant into seed pods!  For any additional questions, send us an email at customerservice@pepperjoe.com.
