Description:

The Cheiro Roxa pepper is native to Brazil and is also relative to the habanero, except it has slightly less heat and a unique fresh sweet flavor. If you're looking for an alternative to the habanero, this pepper has just as much flavor and a unique shape/color that will get people talking!

Cheiro Roxa pepper plants are very productive, growing to around 3 ft. tall and producing high yields of these tiny 1" peppers. Their shape looks like they have been squished - almost resembling tiny toppers! These rare & exotic peppers grow from dark purple to a lighter purple, almost translucent pink color when they reach maturity.

With heat levels reaching 60,000-80,000 SHUs, Cheiro Roxa peppers are pretty hot! They can be used dried as chili powder and dried pods, or they can be used fresh in cooking, salads, salsas, sauces, and more.

*Non-Isolated - Disclaimer: While some of our varieties marked non-isolated were isolated when grown, they are an unstable pepper seed variety that may produce plants with genetic variations, making them less predictable and consistent in terms of traits such as flavor, size, and heat level. While this can lead to unique and exciting variations, it's important to note that these seeds may not reliably reproduce the same characteristics from one generation to the next. Planting non-isolated/unstable pepper seeds can be an adventurous gardening experience, but be prepared for some degree of variability in the resulting pepper plants. We will not be able to offer replacements for variation in traits.

Stout, Productive, and Pretty Plants

We have such a short season in New England where I grow. So I started these seeds in my office in Late February. All 6 of the seeds planted grew. By the time last frost came (late May) these little guys were 24" and had flowers. I put them in my containers in the yard. Unfortunately, my 2 y.o. dog got excited by the smell of bone and blood meal, and tore them all up. I came home and found the plants drying in the sun (what I assume was) most of the day. I quickly replanted them and said a quick prayer to the God of Capsaicin. I also buried the dog in the yard just off the patio (I kid).

All of the plants bounced back. They are stout little numbers, each with over 24 small peppers. I don't think they got any taller - just more bushy and thick. The copious amount of fruit started out almost eggplant colored, but are slowly turning lighter. It is now late June and I'm hoping to have some ripen within a few weeks. I couldn't be happier. Can't wait to taste them!

Getting Started

  • What You'll Need

    Soil and Tray Method

    Seed Starting Supplies
  • Plant your Seeds

    1. Pre-saturate your seed starting soil mix. Ensure the seed starting mix is fully saturated prior to planting your seed.
    2. Make a ¼-inch hole in the center of each seed starting cell. A #2 pencil eraser is a great tool for making these holes.
    3. Place your seed and cover gently with soil.
You can plant up to 4 seeds per cell to help ensure successful germination.
  • 4. Place your heat mat under  your base tray and your humidity dome on top. For best results, set your temperature controller between 75 - 80 degrees.

    5. Place your plant light above the seed starting tray and turn on. Refer to the plant light manufacturers instructions for the optimal distance. Plant light should remain on for 14 to 16 hours per day.

    6. Enjoy watching them grow! See our full instruction page below for more information.
