Description:

The Tomatillo Rio Grande Verde originated in Mexico, where these fruits were first cultivated during the pre-Colombian era.

These compact plants can grow up to 2 ft. tall and produce 3-4 oz tomatillos that mature inside a light tan husk. Expect the Rio Grande Verde Tomatillos to be prolific plants. You won't need to stake out the plant to maintain a healthy plant.

The perfect tomatillo for making chili verde salsa! If you haven't had tomatillo verde salsa, we strongly recommend giving it a try!

Our Companion Seed collection provides you with a variety of options like Tomatillo Seeds, as well as Tomato Seeds, Onion Seeds, and Herb Seeds.

    Time will tell!

It should be noted that I’m a novice gardener, and even more novice seed starter. Add in my first attempt at starting seed was with a hydroponic garden and take all that into account. Around a 75% germ rate, which as a novice, I’m very happy with. That said I potted the plants at the 24 day mark, as they were doing very well and about 8” tall. They’ve been doing well despite my learning curve and are about 12” two weeks after potting.
I have high hopes that they will be prolific bearers.

    • What You'll Need

      Soil and Tray Method

      Seed Starting Supplies
    • Plant your Seeds

      1. Pre-saturate your seed starting soil mix. Ensure the seed starting mix is fully saturated prior to planting your seed.
      2. Make a ¼-inch hole in the center of each seed starting cell. A #2 pencil eraser is a great tool for making these holes.
      3. Place your seed and cover gently with soil.
You can plant up to 4 seeds per cell to help ensure successful germination.
    • 4. Place your heat mat under  your base tray and your humidity dome on top. For best results, set your temperature controller between 75 - 80 degrees.

      5. Place your plant light above the seed starting tray and turn on. Refer to the plant light manufacturers instructions for the optimal distance. Plant light should remain on for 14 to 16 hours per day.

      6. Enjoy watching them grow! See our full instruction page below for more information.
