The 7 Pot Merlot is another 7 Pot variety that exceeds 1,000,000 SHUs and has a very unique color shift compared to other super hot peppers.

These peppers get their namesake from their mature vibrant merlot color that will captivate any grower. 7 Pot Merlots start out green then ripen to purple, then to their final deep red/merlot color.

Unlike their saccharine color and appearance, expect a very pungent scent and a floral bite to these peppers. Use these to make hot sauce and chili, or use them dry for their intense heat!

Joe Walsh

I ordered 30 seeds 10 of each of my favorite varieties. Each set of seeds sprouted all ten. However, I had food scraps I had mulched for a year prior I mixed with the soil this year and last night what I believe to be a racoon complete dug up my garden and destroyed 80 % of my sprout. This is in no way pepper joes fault just a hard lesson to learn for me. I will order more next year I just feel like I’m a little to far into the season to start from seeds again.

  • What You'll Need

    Soil and Tray Method

    Seed Starting Supplies
  • Plant your Seeds

    1. Pre-saturate your seed starting soil mix. Ensure the seed starting mix is fully saturated prior to planting your seed.
    2. Make a ¼-inch hole in the center of each seed starting cell. A #2 pencil eraser is a great tool for making these holes.
    3. Place your seed and cover gently with soil.
You can plant up to 4 seeds per cell to help ensure successful germination.
  • 4. Place your heat mat under  your base tray and your humidity dome on top. For best results, set your temperature controller between 75 - 80 degrees.

    5. Place your plant light above the seed starting tray and turn on. Refer to the plant light manufacturers instructions for the optimal distance. Plant light should remain on for 14 to 16 hours per day.

    6. Enjoy watching them grow! See our full instruction page below for more information.
