Description:

The Japones Pepper is a thin, long, crinkled variety designed to spice and fire up your dish! With its uncaged heat, the spiciness of the Japones is the dominant experience you will have when consuming this pepper!

These grow on short, 2 ft. tall plants and have great production of spicy 2" pepper pods. They look very similar to Santaka Hot Peppers, except a little skinnier and with slightly less heat. You'll see these pods ripen from green to a shiny bright red when they're ready to be picked.

Japones peppers are popular with Asian, Latin, and Caribbean cuisines known to bring a certain amount of spiciness to each dish. You can add the dried Japones chiles as a whole in the dish or crush them as chili flakes or powder to spice up your meal. Try growing the Japones pepper plant in your garden today!

Bring the heat to your garden with our Medium Hot Pepper Seeds! We also carry hotter varieties in our expansive Pepper Seed Collection!

Japones Pepper Seeds

My great-grandfather owned a taco shop in San Diego many decades ago, his taco sauce was the star and made with Japones chilis. I found seeds here at Pepper Joe's and planted 8 seeds and had 100% germination! Strong seedlings so far, can't wait to get them in the ground.

Kim,
Thank you for taking the time to write a review on these seeds! We are happy to hear that all of these germinated for you. Using these in taco sauce is a great use for them and we're excited to hear how it turns out. Please feel free to update your review or add a new one as your plants continue to grow and the taco sauce is made!

  • What You'll Need

    Soil and Tray Method

    Seed Starting Supplies
  • Plant your Seeds

    1. Pre-saturate your seed starting soil mix. Ensure the seed starting mix is fully saturated prior to planting your seed.
    2. Make a ¼-inch hole in the center of each seed starting cell. A #2 pencil eraser is a great tool for making these holes.
    3. Place your seed and cover gently with soil.
You can plant up to 4 seeds per cell to help ensure successful germination.
  • 4. Place your heat mat under  your base tray and your humidity dome on top. For best results, set your temperature controller between 75 - 80 degrees.

    5. Place your plant light above the seed starting tray and turn on. Refer to the plant light manufacturers instructions for the optimal distance. Plant light should remain on for 14 to 16 hours per day.

    6. Enjoy watching them grow! See our full instruction page below for more information.
