Description:
You may have heard of the traditional Serrano pepper, but have you heard of the prolific Purple Serrano? Also known as the Purple Serrano Chili, Serrano Chili, or Serrano Chili Pepper, this beautiful purple-colored pepper is slightly longer than the traditional serrano pepper and is milder in spice.
The similarity they share is the same shape, resembling a candle-flame shape. These pods grow up to around 4" long and have beautiful shiny purple skin. Purple Serranos ripen from green to purple but don’t forget to harvest them when they turn purple because if you leave the Purple Serrano on the plant for too long, they will turn red!
Serrano Chilie will have sweet, fresh flavors with a mild spice. Heat levels for these peppers range anywhere between 8,000-22,000 SHUs. This is a delicious and unique variety to add to your Pico de Gallo, salads, and salsas!

Purple Serrano Pepper Seed
All of the ones I planted came up and are hardening beautifully. I can't wait to see them start producing! I have 100% germination so far, planting half the seeds of each variety I purchased.
I can't rate because as soon as I opened this she (for real) knocked a pan of 24 seedlings on the ground.
For starters, I couldn't believe the harvest that I got. Enormous numbers of purple serranos. When I eat them when purple, they are mildly hot. However, I just couldn't get to all of them, so I harvested many of them when they were a beautiful red. Boy were they hot then. I use them as fresh hot pepper as a garnish on my foods rather than dried cayenne pepper. This is an awesome plant. All your peppers germinated beautifully, Small plants that made it easy to grow in pots, but I have never seen small plants produce such enormous harvests. I have had much bigger plants that produce less.
Thank you so much for sharing! I am glad you had such a great harvest!
These more exotic varieties need a little more TLC than normal to germinate (heat, soaking, etc) but once they start the success rate is good (70-80% or more). Like the selection a lot and the customer service is really amazing. I got free seeds for Roma tomatoes and cilantro as well as mega-hot peppers (scorpions) to grow my own salsa, which is a really nice touch. Both of those germinated and are doing well. Will be buying live plants from this company in the spring, the selection of peppers is amazing.
