🔥 Red Scotch Bonnet Pepper Seeds - About the Red Scotch Bonnet Pepper

The Red Scotch Bonnet is one of the world’s most recognizable hot peppers, loved for its unique shape, bright color, and unmistakable Caribbean heat. Known as the fiery cousin of the habanero, this pepper delivers a bold blend of fruitiness and smoky spice that’s perfect for adventurous growers and cooks alike.

With colorful relatives like Yellow and Orange Scotch Bonnets, this chile pepper variety stands out for its striking color and intense flavor profile. Find them in our Rainbow Scotch Bonnet Pepper Seed Collection to try them all.

🌿 Plant Characteristics

Scotch Bonnet pepper plants are compact yet vigorous, often growing 3–4 feet tall and producing a bountiful harvest of short, bonnet-shaped pods about 1½ inches long.
The peppers ripen from green → orange → vivid red, with a signature wrinkled surface and glossy finish.

Expect slightly later maturity from the red scotch bonnet chile pepper than some other hot peppers, but the reward is worth the wait, these plants deliver consistent yields of vibrant, high-heat fruit.

You can find Red, Yellow & Orange Scotch Bonnet Live Pepper Plants each growing season if starting from seed isn't for you.

🌶️ Flavor & Heat Level

Don’t be fooled by the sweet aroma, Red Scotch Bonnets pack serious fire, averaging 150,000–350,000 Scoville Heat Units (SHU). Their fruity, smoky flavor is beloved in Caribbean cuisine, where they’re used to bring authentic heat and depth to dishes like jerk chicken, pepper sauces, and stews.

Use these "Scotty Bons" fresh, dried, or blended into homemade hot sauces, just handle with care!

  • What You'll Need

    Soil and Tray Method

    Seed Starting Supplies
  • Plant your Seeds

    1. Pre-saturate your seed starting soil mix. Ensure the seed starting mix is fully saturated prior to planting your seed.
    2. Make a ¼-inch hole in the center of each seed starting cell. A #2 pencil eraser is a great tool for making these holes.
    3. Place your seed and cover gently with soil.
You can plant up to 4 seeds per cell to help ensure successful germination.
  • 4. Place your heat mat under  your base tray and your humidity dome on top. For best results, set your temperature controller between 75 - 80 degrees.

    5. Place your plant light above the seed starting tray and turn on. Refer to the plant light manufacturers instructions for the optimal distance. Plant light should remain on for 14 to 16 hours per day.

    6. Enjoy watching them grow! See our full instruction page below for more information.
